Meaningless Mortals

Before I dwell upon the topic of this post, I wish to say that I am not anti-(anything). Every body think what they do is right.

I was shell shocked to listen to some of the speeches made by so called "Maar thattum" tamizhans. I have no intention whatsoever to listen to any pro-LTTE speeches. But I thought this agitation was all about the ill-treatment rendered to the fellow Tamils in the land of Sinhalese. And hence I watched it.

Alarmingly, almost every one of them delivered a pro-LTTE speech. The LTTE proposal (a parallel proposal drafted by them) says they and SL will have one cabinet each, one prime minister each albeit under one president of SL. It is like an autonomous college operating under an university but not bound to any of the rules of the university. This is some thing that impacts the sovereignty of SL and how can another country interfere in this kind of an internal affair?

I am also puzzled when they claimed that LTTE is not a terrorist outfit. I mean if IM, LeT or any other outfit that bomb, conduct suicide attacks demanding Kashmir from India can be labelled as terrorist outfits then certainly LTTE falls under this bracket and to openly support it is, according to me, supporting terrorist activities in neighbouring island nation. The cries from them asking Indian government to interfere and ask military to enter in to ceasefire should be brushed aside as rubbish. As Smt.Jayalalitha rightly pointed out, LTTE would use this time to rebuild their arms wing and retaliate strongly.

Had only people talked about the suffering on Tamil people in the island nation, it would have been much better. Please... learn to differentiate LTTE and the innocent Tamils bearing the grunt of the military oppression. We need to talk for the innocents and not the outfit. The common people nursing their wounds, both physically and mentally, need our moral support and not the outfit.

I think these people must shut up and carry on with their own business unless they know what exactly they should be talking in these meetings. Do they really know what they are standing up for?

I stand for the rights of Tamils in SL 100% and at the same time I am 0% with these outfits because of their chosen modus operandi. For their cause might be noble but they resorted to inhuman practices. If these were to be achieved by means of peaceful dialogues, world would have been much better. I will use couple of Mahatma's quotes to close this. "Non-violence has its own share of difficulties. It tests the people abiding by it to the core. But it also promises success in the end"
"He who volunteers to serve a band of dacoits by working as their career or their watchman or their nurse when they are wounded is as much guilty of the dacoity as the dacoits themselves"

---Peace----

I can't agree more! I don't understand how someone can openly support a terrorist organization like LTTE. I remember some of the conspiracy theories surrounding the death of Rajiv Gandhi. Many Indian politicians who were present at the beginning of the function suddenly disappeared minutes before the blast.

As you said, one has to differentiate between supporting the Tamils and supporting LTTE. Even popular magazines like Kumudam and Vikadan fails to do that. They portray Prabakaran and others as heroes.

At the same time, India should intervene and stop the massacre of Tamils (including the fishermen from India) by the SL army. India has done that with Bangladesh and should do it with Sri Lanka too.

There are only two options for India here:
Support 'freedom movements' in both Kashmir and Tamil SL

or

Condemn both these 'terrorist' organizations and crush them to death.

Mixing up these options will portray us as hypocrites.

Well said Prashanth....u know, painfully, it's not only the mean politicians who are mixing up the LTTE and sri lankan tamizhan issues...few of educated tamizh youths from TN whom i happened to have conversations about the issue of Sri Lanka are also feeling like that... i guees, for the average Tamizhan who is used to so much of one man heroism in movies it would be very hard to think clearly and separate the issues at hand...that VP is not an hero and the modus operandi of LTTE is not the one which will bring prolonged peace in the small island. These days the happenings in TN makes me really feel ashamed....and it seems painfully true that we do not have even one real leader who can raise up above all the differences and nonsense of the times...they are putting up a real comedy show to which the politicians and the filmy fraternity are contributing with all their might just to make Tamizhans and TN look like a joker in front of everyone!

India needn't interfere in this affair at this time.. We have LOT of weeds to be plucked off in our own soil... There are N number of terrorist bastards roaming in the country.. We have to chuck them out first.. And then interfere in the SL issue...

Karunanidhi tried to play cheap politics with this issue... But then he slowed down... He said his MPs are ready to resign.. But then, his words were written in water!

This (killing of innocent tamils) has been happning since ages and I don't understand why suddenly our beloved politicians in TN are so eager to stop this now.. Just another effort to divert public focus from issues like inflation...

@ Aziaf - God knows the solution1

@ Venkat - Agreed, mate!

@ Ela - Are't we already looking like clowns because of our stand?

@ Mac - Precisely! A topic for public attention and diversion!

@ Usha - I believe it has to spiral from the root level as well!
