Women are abused/killed all over the world for the trivial and ridiculous of reasons. Female infants are killed in India because.. well...because they're born as females. Fathers kill daughters because she SEEMED to be friendly with the neighbor's son.

I hate it when people drag religion into an issue. I feel as though it is just ONE of the differences between us...yet it makes people take innocent lives. Isn't religion supposed to make one a better person? Isn't religion supposed to enhance a person's good qualities?

Where did we go wrong?

Absolutely heartbreaking story!!

Romance with a soldier from occupying forces at the age of 17 in a middle east Islamic nation?

Come on!It would be NEWS only if she had gone on to live with that 22 year old soldier. And to be frank, I don't think that guy would have married her anyway. So it's more of a sweet ending.

Absconding said...

@ venkat

Regardless of what happened, a girl died because of who she fell in love with. She was killed brutally (and don't tell me that it doesn't happen often...).

She was killed man!!! WHERE do you see the 'sweet'ness in there?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? People from different background do fall in love and do end up together by the way...!

Gayatri said...

@venkat so the only solution to her story if she doesn't get married to the soldier is dying? You have marred ideas!

Unknown said...

Look people, if you don't want to accept reality, so be it.I bet 90% of girls in Islamic nations face the same fate as this girl.

"If you are at Rome live in the Roman style; if you are elsewhere live as they live elsewhere"

It's as simple as that.

I am not arguing over the moral of this story. I am not trying to say death is the solution.Things could have been far worse.

http://www.cnn.com/2006/LAW/07/03/iraq.charge/
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/10/11/world/middleeast/11casualties.html

It's easy to sit before your computer and type some heart wrenching lines over tragic romantic story that happened across the ocean but that isn't going to stop anything. To me, she got what she deserved. Marred idea? May be.

N.V.Prashanth said...

@ Absconding - I know... Particularly when you read papers here in the US, you daily read news of them are being abused! Hope there is an end to it!

@ Maverick - These kinda things are crazy to the core

@ Venkat - @ Both the comments. I know its real bad in the middle east. And realize that sitting here and ranting abt it does not solve the issue. On the other hand, I do not realize how being happy for it will solve the issue.

And by the virtue of these guys doing it to the women folk doesn't mean that they deserve it. I hope women talk to men every where in the world.

BTW, welcome to the blog.

@ G3 - And to make things worse.. the way she was killed by her father and brother...Cruel

Unknown said...

Dude, I am not celebrating her death. I am just saying she should have understood her culture better.

By the way, who on earth romances with a soldier from occupying force? In India that's equivalent to a Kashmiri romancing with a Pakistani soldier who crossed border during Kargil war. No wonder the traitor got killed.

N.V.Prashanth said...

The method of killing purely highlights the barbarianism in them!

Unknown said...

Let's email them requesting them to kill their next daughter in a way that would please you..I mean not in a cruel way...Okay?

N.V.Prashanth said...

I thought even killing is cruel... I do not know if any one deserves a right to kill some one (be it a man or woman) for loving some one. But you can always have your point of view and you can stand by it!

Arun Sundar said...

Anga enna prechnayo! y this much sanda?

Absconding said...

@ Venkat

What kind of barbaric idea are you conveying?? "She got what she deserved"??? Who in the world are YOU to say WHAT she deserves. She is a human being and she deserves to be treated that way!!!

I do accept reality and I do understand that this kind of atrocity happens in such conservative countries...even in India. But one can't help but sympathize for these girls.

Contrary to what you may think, some people can't help who they fall in love with. These people are HUMANS first..then a muslim or a soldier!!! As long as people can't come to terms with it, these heinous acts will prevail!!

I have accepted the fact that life is not so fair and that you can't expect things to go your way. I understand that these cultures are very unique and that they demand certain things from the denizens of the country. As a human, I find certain ideas absolutely ridiculous!!

You don't have to sympathize ...can't you try not to mock these girls, the least?!

Ramakrishnan said...

Isn't it just plain irritating ? its only that you can kill and get away with it in iraq. and in india you cant. so parents resort to a different kinda emotional torture. not that physical torture is completely non-existant. It seems to be everywhere man.

Absconding.. stop being an EMO. I've read a lot about 'Love is blind' crap... but can't these idiotic lovers at least use some common sense?

By the way, whether you like it or not, I have all the rights to share my opinion.

Absconding said...

@ Venkat

And where did you get the notion that I'm an EMO?!?!?!?! Dude please!!

May be if you become less cynical, you will understand what LOVE exactly means!!! May be you should try EXPERIENCING what love is rather than 'reading about it'!!!

Oh of course..opinions are like assholes..everyone has them!! Sure..you have the right to express them.

It's fortunate (for you) that you don't get killed (brutally) for expressing an opinion that's different from mine!!

N.V.Prashanth said...

@ Arun - Prechana dhaan ba ingha sandai.

@ Ramki - Yes, I realize that its every where and is being done in different severity level. And I know people, enjoying all the liberty, endorsing such cruelty.

@ Venkat - What I believe is that no one DESERVES to be killed. If she falls for a brit soldier, so be it. I seriously fail to understand your POV. If some one is born in a conservative society and falls for some one would you want her to be killed by her own family by stamping on her neck until she dies? What the heck? I would seriosuly consider lunatics endorsing this cruelty.
We see people standing for cruelty against animals...and look whts happening to human beings.

This is my POV.

Talking about barbarians, Iraq is not the only place. If you ever happen to flip through the pages of 'Junior Vikadan' or 'Kumudham Reporter' or even 'Dhinathandi' for that matter, you will know.

The action of their family, is undeniably beyond being termed as 'barbaric'. It is true that infatuation can make one's life miserable, if not corrected by parents and other well wishers. While she thought of sharing her life with that soldier, it may be that he would have thought to share only something else with her. But isn't her family responsible to make her understand things and tell her what reality is?

To hell with people who fail to understand what the religion says!

And if you ever think twice before falling in love then it’s not love. You call it bargain.

first of all, venkat, i dont totally not agree with your first sentiments. re-worded, they sound to me like , even if it is gross injustice, why did the girl let it happen to her ? was there anyway she could have avoided it ? ok agreed, she dint have a chance in physical fights, but what do the other girls who read the news take from this one ? I subscribe to the same school of thought.

But i dont really understand the subsequent comments to you and also your counter comments, and also now why you are laughing. i have no rights to ask you, but since we have come to this forum, it would help clarify if you explain.

Unknown said...

@Prashant - what? No one deserves to die? No one? You need to come out of your cave.

Two words to describe this argument - It all comes down to cultural differences. You see, the point here is - A 16 year old having sex with his/her partner is not a big deal in western world whereas in India,I bet, this is unacceptable. In Saudi a woman going out without a burkha is a serious offense. In Pakistan, there's no law to punish mercy killings.

How about you all lead a movement to reform this whole world to make them understand your way of life? What I said is this girl deserved it because she knew what was coming to her. Add to it that it was not a Iraqi man that she fell in love with.. it was a soldier from western world which is responsible for killing nearly a million Iraqis. Makes any sense? All you poor kids, grow up.

By the way,Isn't it funny that Indians think Iraqis are barbaric and Western world think Indians are barbaric? What are you going to do about it.. write a blog post to cry out loud?

@absconding -
"It's fortunate (for you) that you don't get killed (brutally) for expressing an opinion that's different from mine!!"
So when someone doesn't agree with you, they should get killed brutally? wow! You're right when you said opinions are like a@#@@#.

N.V.Prashanth said...

Venkat - you do not seem to buy in one point. I know tht the girl knows tht her country does not allow women to walk around freely and talk to strangers (men). My rant was, just in case you probably missed, is that why the country is still subscribing to such acts. You might want to read my response to Rayees. I am damn sure that the same situation could be handled in a lot different way called human way. And why do you want to get other countries in? I am not trying to single out any country. It so happened that the news item I picked upon was from Iraq.

And if you get your English basics right, there is a sea of difference between "No one deserves to be killed" and "No one deserves to die".

And what I also fail to understand is that what do you want us to take from your counter argument? Are you here to say that what the family did to the girl was right? If that was the case, then I might want you to shut up. Of course, will be conveyed in a polite way.

And I am not here blogging to reform the world or to cry out for help. I write what I feel and you can't question me on that.

Absconding said...

"So when someone doesn't agree with you, they should get killed brutally? wow! You're right when you said opinions are like a@#@@#." - Venkat

So sorry to hear that you didn't get what exactly I was trying to convey! READ IT AGAIN and relate that to the story...hmm.. may be you'll 'get it'!

Very glad to see that you have found humor in my comments. You have proven yourself..... AGAIN!!! And excuse me for arguing from a HUMAN standpoint. Who the hell can learn about an emotion or a feeling BY READING about it????

No one called a specific group of people barbaric. People called the ACTIONS barbaric. She was beaten to death. Oh..well..you know here among us human, we kind of feel that it is brutal and barbaric.

Unknown said...

Are you here to say that what the family did to the girl was right?
No, I didn't say that. Read all my comments. What I said was the girl deserves it and I have given enough explanations to support my views. Now again,it's not about whether it's right or wrong but whether she deserves it or not for being such a fool.

If that was the case, then I might want you to shut up. Of course, will be conveyed in a polite way.
You can always ask someone to shut up...not sure how one can ask someone to shut up in a polite way.I think you are missing the very purpose of blogging...eventhough this is your blog, you have no right to stop people from commenting. However,You have the right to keep your blog private or delete comments which you think doesn't make sense.

My rant was, just in case you probably missed, is that why the country is still subscribing to such acts.
My point is that when you live in a country that subscribes to such an act, then control yourself or at least be smart enough not to romance in the public. Is it that difficult to understand? Wherever they are, Fools deserve to die and I don't care a damn about it because there are plenty of other deaths that deserves sympathy. And do you seriously think that the father killed his daughter because she was having a friendly chat with an English soldier? I bet there's plenty more that the bloody western media chose not to publish.

And if you get your English basics right, there is a sea of difference between "No one deserves to be killed" and "No one deserves to die".
Pot calling the kettle black?
Dude, come on,don't act as if you are a Shakespeare. My point was clear - I think there are people (millions of them) who deserve to be killed. Why else do you think countries still have death sentences?

I write what I feel and you can't question me on that.
Don't be childish. No one questioned your rights to blog.

Two rules of life that very well applies to blogosphere too:
Learn to accept opinions even if it differs from yours.
You have no rights to ask someone to shut up.

N.V.Prashanth said...
